Registration to practice

You need a nursing qualification and a licence from the Queensland Nursing Council (QNC) to practise nursing in Queensland. Once you have completed your nursing degree you will need to apply to the QNC for registration and a current licence to practice. For more information on nursing registration and regulation in Queensland go to the Queensland Nursing Council website.

Registered Nurse

Upon graduation from University, you will be required to register as a nurse with the Queensland Nursing Council (QNC). As a regulatory body, the QNC oversees all aspects of nursing in Queensland from education and practice to nursing conduct. Once you are registered as a nurse you are required to renew your registration every year. If you have previously been registered as a nurse in Queensland, or you are licensed to practice as a nurse in another State or Territory or New Zealand, you must still re-register. For more information and to obtain registration forms please visit the Queensland Nursing Council (QNC) website.
