Becoming an enrolled nurse
As an enrolled nurse you will work under the supervision of a registered nurse to provide nursing care for patients in hospitals, nursing homes and a variety of other health care organisations.
You need a nursing qualification and a licence from the Queensland Nursing Council (QNC) to practise nursing in Queensland. Once you have completed your enrolled nursing course you will need to apply to the QNC for enrolment and a current licence to practice. Educational Prequisites
Entry to an enrolled nursing course usually requires completion of Year 12 with passes in English and at least one Science. As subjects can vary between institutions, you should contact your chosen institution for full details. Please visit the TAFE webiste for more information.
What Will I Study?
Studying to become an enrolled nurse involves a mix of practical and theoretical training. You may study subjects that cover occupational health and safety policy, performing fundamental nursing procedures safely and within guidelines, gathering and using client-based observation and information. Where To Study?
To become an enrolled nurse in Queensland you must complete a Diploma of Nursing Care (Pre Enrolment). Alternative entry may be available. You may be able to study externally through distance education. Contact the institution and discuss your circumstances.
