Clinical Opportunities

In Nursing, there is the choice of numerous career pathways within the hospital setting, such as intensive care, emergency, neurology, orthopaedics, radiology, communicable diseases, research, paediatrics and special care nurseries, to name just a few. Nurses also work in a wide variety of settings within the community, including private clinics, aged care facilities, the Defence Forces, schools, industrial sites, remote areas and many more. In Midwifery, there are also career pathways both in the hospital and in the community. Increasingly, Midwives in Australia and overseas are providing continuity of care to women, right through pregnancy, labour and birth and the postnatal period. Teaching Opportunities

Within nursing there are many opportunities for experienced nurses to teach others both in the clinical settings and in the more formal education settings within Hospitals.  Universities and TAFE institutions that offer nursing courses employee Nurse Educators for their courses.

Management Opportunities

There is a career pathway for nurses who wish to enjoy the challenges of managing others and managing services.  Positions begin as a Nurse Unit Manager and progress through to Nursing Director positions, District Director of Nursing positions to Executive Nursing Director positions.
