Employed by Queensland Health?

Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses employed by Queensland Health are invited to apply to be added to the Rural and Remote Nursing Relief Program by completing an Application Form.  Applications are not restricted to nurses in specific positions or specific locations - all nurses are welcome to apply who are 12 months post graduation.  The Director of Nursing of the facility at which you are based is required to support your application.  Applications are assessed and applicants are formally notified if their application is accepted.

The following steps provide an overview of how a Relief assignment operates for people working within Queensland Health:

  1. The DON (or their delegate) requiring staff contacts the State Coordination Team by email or phone and places a request for an assignment.
  2. The DON with the assistance of State Coordination Team will shortlist staff for the position. The State Coordination Team will investigate their release from their substantive position or confirm availability from the program.
  3. Upon confirmation, the State Coordination Team will contact the Nurse directly and obtain acceptance of the assignment.
  4. The State Coordination Team will confirm with the receiving DON the assignment is filled and confirm with the Relinquishing facility that the Nurse has accepted the assignment.
  5. State Coordination Team forwards written documentation i.e. Assignment Notification, a copy of Pay Roll Advise memorandum, and Evaluation Forms to the Relief Nurse, Receiving and Relinquishing facilities.
  6. If the relief position is of a higher level than the applicant’s substantive position, a Higher Duties form will be signed by the receiving DON on arrival at the facility and return to the Nurses substantive facility.
  7. The Receiving Facility reimburses the Relinquishing facility for salary costs and associated on costs.
  8. The Receiving facility organises travel, accommodation etc in accordance with IRM 2.2-13 (Nurses Providing Short Term Relief to Rural and Remote Facilities – Conditions).
